Summertime Pet Tips

It's Summertime and the pavement is HOT!! With temps increasing the summer heat it can make your pets life miserable! Because dogs do not have a sweating mechanism that humans do to stay cool, overheating can take place quickly and could be deadly. Catching overheating early could save your dogs life. Here are some early signs:

  • Heavy panting
  • Increased drooling
  • Rapid breathing
  • Dry gums
Some preventative measures:
  • Don't over exercise your dog when its hot out.
  • Have plenty of water with you to share with your dog.
  • Look for shady spots to rest.
The sidewalks and streets can be very hot during this time. They can be extremely harmful to your dogs paws. A good way to test the sidewalk is to put the back of your hand on the pavement. If you can't hold it there for more than 5 seconds, the pavement is too hot. Finding a grassy park is the best solution to walking your dog during these hot times with little exposure to any pavement. If a grassy park is not available dog booties can be your solution to protecting your pup.
